Kids Corrective Footwear

A shoe last is a special mould used by shoemakers to shape shoes, serving as the foundation that connects the upper, sole, and other components during production. It's important to note that corrective footwear is designed on unique lasts, distinct from those used for regular shoes.

Different Last Shapes:

  • Semi-curved or curved lasts: have an inward curve from the heel to the great toe, commonly used in the production of standard footwear.
  • Straight lasts: have a symmetrical line from heel to toe, keeping the forefoot neutral without adduction or abduction.
  • Reverse lasts: also known as anti-varus lasts, have an outward "C" shape, curving from heel to great toe outward, with the forefoot abducted compared to the heel.

Straight and reverse last shoes are useful for therapeutic purposes and post-corrective interventions for conditions like metatarsus adductus (MTA) or clubfoot in young children. They help realign the forefoot using the widely recognized "3-point correction" technique. With support from the specially designed heel counter which grips the medial and lateral hindfoot, the extended section of the heel counter helps realign the forefoot at the base of the big toe.

For unilateral forefoot adduction conditions, reach out to us for guidance. We can offer split pairs where one shoe is standard for the unaffected foot and the other straight or reverse-lasted for the affected foot.

Corrective footwear must only be used upon recommendation from a medical or allied health practitioner.
